Best Starter Digimon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger
At the start of Time Stranger you pick one of three partner Digimon — Gomamon, Patamon or DemiDevimon. Your choice shapes the early game, but you can obtain the other two later, so none of them is a wrong answer. Here is how they compare. Data from grindosaur.

Gomamon is a Vaccine type, and most of the early bosses and wild Digimon are Virus — so it holds a type advantage through the opening hours. It is the bulkiest starter (highest HP) and evolves into the dependable Ikkakumon line.
Best for: New players and anyone who wants an easy start.

Patamon has by far the highest INT of the three and an Enlightened personality, making it a natural special-attack caster. It is fragile early but its Angemon → Angewomon / Seraphimon route is one of the best in the game.
Best for: Players who like magic damage and want the strongest late-game ceiling.

DemiDevimon is a Virus type that counters the Data enemies scattered through the early areas, and its Demi Darts attack heals as it damages, making solo exploration far safer. It has the highest ATK and SPD of the starters for a well-rounded feel.
Best for: Solo explorers who want safety and flexibility.
Which should you pick?
- Pick Gomamon if it is your first Digimon Story game — its Vaccine typing beats the Virus-heavy opening and it takes hits well.
- Pick Patamon if you want the strongest special-attacker and don't mind a fragile start; its evolution line is elite.
- Pick DemiDevimon if you like exploring solo — Demi Darts self-heals and it counters early Data enemies.
