Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth — Our Review

TamerDex's take. Short version: this is the game that revived Digimon RPGs — a deep, generous monster-collector with a stylish cyber-noir story, held back only by repetitive dungeon design.

Play it if
You love turn-based monster-collectors and want deep team-building with 240+ Digimon.
Think twice if
Samey dungeon corridors and a slow-burn anime story will wear on you.

What it gets right

The collecting is superb. You scan Digimon in the field, convert them, and then digivolve and de-digivolve freely to reshape any Digimon into almost anything — a genuinely open build system across all 341 forms. Combat is a clean turn-based system with a satisfying Vaccine/Virus/Data triangle and support skills, and the cyber-noir story has real style. It's the release that put Digimon RPGs back on the map.

Where it drags

The dungeons are the weak spot — lots of reused, blocky corridors that blur together, and the pacing has slow stretches typical of the genre. None of it undoes the monster-raising, but it's why the game lands good rather than great.

Who it's for

Anyone who likes creature-collectors owes it a look, and the Complete Edition bundles the sequel, Hacker's Memory, for double the content. Reviews landed around 76 on Metacritic — a solid, well-liked RPG that fans still recommend as the best modern entry point to the series.

Our take: the best Digimon RPG to start with. Pick a starter, scan everything, and enjoy building your dream team.
